My dear little garden is nearing it's end as the days are getting shorter and the threat of frost is every approaching. With everything that has happened these past weeks, the garden has pretty much been left to fend for itself. Amazingly, it's still providing us with plenty of peppers, beans, and cherry tomatoes, all of which we've been enjoying or tucking into the freezer for later.
I do love the low-maintenance garden that September brings.
A little bit of garden cleanup has started as well. I hauled a load of fresh compost into the beds where the carrots, bush beans, and squash grew this year and decided to try my hand at a bit of winter wheat and winter rye as a cover crop. I may have planted it a bit late, but hopefully not! My garden seems to need a nutrients boost and so I'm hoping that a winter cover crop and a few loads of compost will get it to a much healthier place before next summer. We shall see!
Here's to the last days/weeks of garden goodness!!
