The garden is going strong and we are starting to taste the abundance that August in Minnesota brings! There has been a little bit of a lull over the past couple weeks due to the chickens eating or digging up some of the produce that should have been ready at that time (broccoli, greens, carrots, beans). We are thinking ahead to next year and how to happily all co-exist on this little city lot of ours. We have some fun ideas that I'm excited to keep thinking on...
But for now, the peppers are coming in! We are consistently enjoying jalapeños and green bell peppers. The tomatoes are starting to ripen and we're eating just a few little ones each day and thoroughly enjoying them, knowing we will soon have more than enough to eat and hopefully plenty to preserve as well. Another planting of carrots went in this past week. If we have a late frost, then we will hopefully get a decent crop of carrots from this planting...if not, then I'll be picking up bunches of carrots at the farmer's market! The pole beans are now flowering and looking full at the top of their lattice. I'm excited to taste the new variety I planted this year! And the summer squash and zucchini are slowing producing. Hopefully we'll be eating from them on a regular basis soon.
I do so enjoy walking through the garden each morning, sometimes just to check things, other times to harvest. It's a lovely way to start the day.
